Omar Elattar, the creator of The Passionate Few, has an inspiring story of going from broke, $30,000 in debt, lost, and depressed to interviewing over $10 Billion worth of entrepreneurs, achieving over 7 million downloads, and over 120,000 subscribers on YouTube.
In this week’s episode of Decide Your Destiny, Omar Elattar who like many of us has been through life’s highs and lows shares his story that is touching, inspirational, and motivational. A boy from Southern California who had been a fairly average student began his journey towards becoming an established world-famous Youtuber by letting his passion drive him. As he puts it, he wanted to “play to get paid.” He emphasized on the fact that it is very important to enjoy the work that you are doing so the work doesn’t seem like work.
Omar Elattar’s Entrepreneurial Journey
Omar speaks of how he started his entrepreneurial journey in high school where he would be selling candy bars and have a profit margin of $20 per box almost every day. He shared an interesting and entertaining story of how his friend in high school would hold the box of chocolates for him while he pitched to sell the chocolates. He would share a part of his profit with his friend, this clearly depicts his excellent entrepreneurial skills at an early age.
Omar Elattar exhibited his creative marketing and entrepreneurial skills at a very young age but he never realized the mountain of talent he had in him. He started trying many different things to find something he enjoyed doing that could also make him money. He tutored students, worked in yogurt bars and started teaching skateboard lessons in college. Skating was his passion and this turned into looking for an internship in the skating world.
Omar Didn’t Quit When Rejected
In his third year of college, he wrote down 50 companies where he would like to intern. After a lot of thought, he decided to message all of them and finally got a call from a skate company. Even though he was rejected for the position, he took the rejection with grace and offered to volunteer for free.
This was a monumental moment in his life because the person handling the internship hiring was so impressed with his reply that he actually offered to help Omar with getting another position. Without thinking much of it he went about his life. After a few weeks, he received an email from Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory telling him that they heard of him and to ask if he was willing to intern for their company. This was a major change in Omar’s life. He started traveling around the country and living in 5-star hotels with all expenses paid. At the time, this was the life of his dreams but it came to an end.
From Dream Lifestyle To Door-To-Door Sales
He went from this type dream lifestyle to going door to door in the desert heat selling solar energy. From living the life of his dreams, to working that type of job takes a major toll on your mindset. Omar explains how he felt working for a famous celebrity throughout his internship and the effect it had going from such a high to a low.
This was Omar’s rock bottom. He was lost, depressed, in debt, dumped by his girlfriend, and he decided he needed to make a change. He hired a coach who asked him to write down, if life was perfect, what would happen next?
